Take a stroll along the bamboo trail and bask in phytoncides to enjoy wonderful nature.
The travel guide tells the past of the mysterious trail; the beautiful natural scenery and its enigmatic history provide an invigorating experience.
In 1910, Tokyo Imperial University set up an experimental forest area in Taiwan. The first director, Suezo Nishikawa, decided to introduce Yoshino cedars from Kawakami, Yoshino River, Nara. Since Xitou is a mountain valley and the humidity is high, it is very similar to the origin of Yoshino cedars in terms of climate.
In March 1912, it was decided that Xitou would become an experimental area for planting Japanese cedars. The area is now the Nishikawa Afforestation Area in front of today’s Chitou Le Midi Hotel.
